The app collects nothing

Desqueeze has no accounts, no analytics and no crash reporting. It makes no network connection of any kind, not even to check for updates.

It reads the top level of the one folder you give it and writes DNG files in that folder. Your photos never leave your Mac. It starts exiftool and dnglab, which ship inside the app, and Adobe DNG Converter if you installed it, all on your Mac.

This page sets no cookies. Plausible counts page views and downloads without cookies, and I see only totals. Its script loads from plausible.io; everything else loads from plateworks.org itself. The download comes from GitHub, which keeps its own logs.

Netlify hosts the page and keeps ordinary server logs.

Support

Desqueeze sets the DefaultScale tag in DNG files and converts Sony ARW files to DNG. It has no accounts and nothing on a server. Try it on a copy of a folder first.

Things that are working as intended

  • Finder and Quick Look still show the photo squeezed. They ignore the tag; Lightroom and Camera Raw read it.
  • A photo already in Lightroom keeps its old shape until you choose Metadata, then Read Metadata from File.
  • On an Intel Mac the download does not start. It needs Apple silicon.
